Giga Metals is excited to announce that company executives are presenting at Red Cloud Financial Service’s Fall Mining Showcase 2022, in partnership with PearTree. Live in Toronto at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, the two-day event will be held on November 9 and 10.
Hear from Director of Communications, Holly Millar as she takes the stage to talk about how Giga Metal’s joint venture with Mitsubishi Corp provides a path forward for development of the Turnagain project.
The project’s recent preliminary economic assessment (PEA) estimates an average 33,000 tonnes of nickel annually, with the potential of decades of active mine life – 37 years to be exact.
“I’m very excited to present a corporate update from Giga Metals at the Fall Mining Showcase 2022,” said Millar. “With the backing of Mitsubishi, we are advancing a Pre-Feasibility level engineering study aimed at the battery market.”
In the newly formed partnership, Giga maintains 85% ownership, and is fully funded to complete the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) in the first half of 2023.
The mine is designed to be low carbon, with projected emissions of less than 2.5 tonnes of CO2, per tonne in Nickel concentrate. As well, the company has partnered with University of British Columbia (UBC) to fund carbon sequestration research. This, along with safe, modern tailings management are a high priority for the company as it moves ahead towards development.
“Our attendance at the Showcase will give us an opportunity to explain the significance of our new partnership as it pertains to developments in our upcoming PFS and our intent to build the project as one of the most environmentally friendly nickel projects globally,” said Millar.
The joint venture, Hard Creek, is working with First Nations and local communities to develop the Turnagain Project in a way which will be beneficial for British Columbia, a jurisdiction that has adopted the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
